The Story

So, Vacation/Birthday post has been usurped by Lover's very decent proposal.

Yes, we are getting married!

I think he'll always be Lover, though. I won't switch over to Husband or anything. He's my love.

And here's the story:

We were spending day one of vacation in Bar Harbor, Maine. Bar Harbor is located on Mount Desert Island and is surrounded by Acadia National Park. The sun is hot, the ocean breeze is cool, and summer nights call for extra layers. There are multiple places to get kayak tours, eco/nature/birdwatch tours, whale watches, and bike rentals. Homemade ice cream shops and tiny cafes can be found on every street. Lobster shacks and seafood restaurants are everywhere. There is a blueberry version of everything edible.

Along the water's edge is a way known as the Shore Path. We started walking along. It was low tide, and along the pebble beach were immense boulders with deep grooves from wind and water. One of these boulders had a couple rock piles on top. You know, the Zen rock piles that people intentionally stack. Lover said to me, "Why don't you go build a rock pile?"

This sort of thing is fun for me, so I clambered up the boulder and began stacking flat bits of rock atop each other. Lover kneeled beside me, and handed me pieces of rock to use. He said, "How about this one?"

He handed me the ring. I think I stopped breathing in that instant. He asked the question, and I said "yes". Well, I think I might have said "okay", but there was a yes in there somewhere too.

Then there was hugging and tears and some breathy promises and praises coming from both of us.

We sat there for another hour talking about the ring (!) and calling family and friends.

We're very happy.
